Is your website secure for online payments?

Yes, CompactLaw uses 128-bit encryption, (the strongest commercially available form of encryption) provided by BT Trustwise to ensure that when you pay online your card details are tranmitted securely.

Who handles the credit card payment?

The verification of your credit or debit card is carried out by WorldPay, the leading provider of secure online card processing in the UK. WorldPay is authorised by all the major banks and card companies in the UK to carry out the processing of credit and debit card transactions.

Does CompactLaw have access to customer card details?

No, CompactLaw does not have access to your card details, these are passed directly from WorldPay in an encrypted form to your bank over a secure link; we (like you) receive a transaction receipt as proof of your purchase. This means that you can be sure that your card details never leave this secure environment.

How do I know that I am on a secure web page?

To check that you are on a secure page look for one the following in your browser:

  • The website address when ordering begins with "https" rather than "http".
  • A picture of a locked padlock will appear at the bottom of your browser window.

Are any other security checks made?

Yes, during a transaction the WorldPay system can make the following security checks in, addition to checking the usual card details:

  • Card security code check: The three digit number on the back of a card.
  • Address & Postcode check: The address & postcode entered at the time of purchase is checked against the details held by the card issuer.
  • Internet Protocol (IP) address logged: The IP address shows a customer's address on the Internet at the time of the transaction.

All of these measures are designed to protect customers and prevent the fraudulent use of their credit or debit cards.

Does CompactLaw provide a security guarantee?

Yes, if your bank or credit card company holds you liable for unauthorised use of your card we will cover your liability up to a maximum of £50.00 provided that the unauthorised use resulted through no fault of your own from purchases made on our site. Please note that you must notify your bank or card company of any unauthorised use. Our guarantee is limited to £50.00 because in these situations you would only be expected to pay the first £50.00 of any unauthorised use.
